After taking to social media to vent his apparent frustrations about his spot on the depth chart, Jalen Reagor is packing his bags in Foxborough

The Patriots announced on Tuesday that they cut Reagor from the practice squad, shortly after the wide receiver posted an interesting photo on his Instagram story.

The photo, which features a Bugatti sports car parked under a dreary carport, was deleted soon after Reagor posted it. The photo has been used before as an internet meme, often to describe a talented player mired on a bad team or organization (Shohei Ohtani on the Angels might be the apt comparison).

It seems as though the Patriots received Reagor’s message loud and clear, with the team cutting him just a few hours after the photo was posted.

Reagor’s release wasn’t the direct result of the social media post. The speedy wideout had expressed similar sentiments internally leading up to Tuesday’s roster move, according to a souce.

The 25-year-old Reagor was a member of the Patriots since being signed to their practice squad last August, with the former first-round pick spending the first two weeks of the 2024 season on the practice squad.

Reagor appeared in 11 games last season with the Patriots, catching seven passes for 138 yards. His greatest contributions came on special teams, where he returned seven kicks for 221 yards and a touchdown.

Even with Reagor’s dynamic ability on special teams, he found himself buried on the depth chart at receiver, especially with the arrival of rookies Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker this offseason. Reagor lost a spot on the 53-man roster to Kayshon Boutte, with Reagor ultimately added back to the team via the practice squad.
